Poplars on the Epte — Claude Monet (1891)
Claude Monet’s Poplars on the Epte (1891) captures a stand of trees along the River Epte near Giverny in France. He painted this subject dozens of times at different hours of the day, allowing him to study the light. The series only exists because Monet paid the landowner not to cut the trees down before he was finished. Now that’s commitment to one’s art!
